MUVA – Museum of Urban Art and Vandalism is the first museum for contemporary urban art in Switzerland. It gained physical presence in April 2023 through a painting intervention by the artists Gen Atem and S213. In their intervention, they transformed an old building on the Attisholz industrial site into a golden monolith. MUVA will be hosted as a start-up within this monolith until autumn 2023. During this time, the «ARGE Startup MUVA,» founded by S213, Gen Atem, and Claudia Brander, will form and lead the necessary interest groups. Their first task will be to conduct a site evaluation to find a suitable location for MUVA. In the next phase, a curatorial manifesto and an operational concept will be developed.
In June 2023, the federal government of Switzerland and the Canton of Solothurn decided to financially support the MUVA start-up through the funding instrument «New Regional Policy» (NRP). The federal government and the Canton consider the MUVA project worthy of support from cultural, scientific, industrial, and touristic perspectives. This decision by the NRP represents another milestone in the development of the MUVA project after the temporary use of the premises at the Attisholz site.
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding MUVA, we would be delighted to hear from you via email.
