MUVA – Museum of Urban Vandalism Art is the first museum for contemporary urban art in Switzerland. It gained physical presence in April 2023 through a painting intervention by the artists Gen Atem and S213. In their intervention, they transformed an old building on the Attisholz industrial site into a golden monolith. MUVA will be hosted as a start-up within this monolith until autumn 2023. During this time, the «ARGE Startup MUVA,» founded by S213, Gen Atem, and Claudia Brander, will form and lead the necessary interest groups. Their first task will be to conduct a site evaluation to find a suitable location for MUVA. In the next phase, a curatorial manifesto and an operational concept will be developed.
In June 2023, the Swiss Confederation and the Canton of Solothurn decided to provide financial support to the start-up MUVA through the “New Regional Policy” (NRP) funding instrument. The Confederation and the Canton consider the MUVA project particularly worthy of support from cultural, scientific, industrial, and tourism perspectives. Following the temporary use of the premises on the Attisholz site, this NRP decision represents another milestone in MUVA’s development. Since 2025, the project has been supported by the Daester-Schild Foundation, which plays a significant role in museum funding in Switzerland.
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding MUVA, we would be delighted to hear from you via email.
